Remington Steele ran from 1982 until 1987. The series was cancelled at the end on the 1985-1986 season. During this period Brosnan was offered the part of” James Bond” in the film The Living Daylights. Due to the urging of the viewing public the show was renewed for one more season. Because of a network contract, Brosnan had to continue his role causing him to be replaced as “Bond” by actor Timothy Dalton. However, in 1994 he was chosen as the fifth actor to play 007. He appeared as “James Bond” in Golden Eye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) and The World is Not Enough. His role as “Sam Carmichael” in 2008s musical Mamma Mia! received less than glowing praise.
He was married to first wife, actress Cassandra Harris, from 1977 until her death from ovarian cancer in 1991. He is involved in several charitable causes and has been an advocate for cancer awareness. Brosnan is a talented artist and has raised money for many of the charities he advocates for by the sale of his paintings. He has been an Ambassador for UNICEF Ireland since 2001.
